How Can I improve My Auditorium Acoustics

Improve Your Auditorium Acoustics

In order to ensure the good performance of Auditorium Acoustics you must take into account some factors that will play an important role in ensuring high quality performance.

  • Avoiding echo and reverberation as it is one of the main barriers for a good performance of Auditorium Acoustics, this can be done by several different ways :
    1. Building walls with a design made especially to absorb sounds, like an excess echo by using sound absorbing materials to guarantee a performance with a good quality.
    2. Covering up all spaces that would cause foot-traffic noise with carpets.
    3. Metal and Plastic seating would not guarantee full absorption to noises and excess sounds which is why fabric seating is preferable in auditoriums.
    4. It is always guaranteed that covering up hard surfaces in walls by thick fabric curtains would have better results in the process of improving auditorium acoustics.
  • Avoiding exterior disturbances, by ensuring that the building of the auditorium is away from all sources of noises and that can be done through an auditorium sound study. Or an alternative could be building double pane windows, thicker walls with a high density or acoustically isolated ceilings.
  • Isolating the auditorium in the building by keeping it away from all the areas that are usually used frequently by people like washrooms or dressing rooms.
  • Door should also be built in a way that would prevent noises from intrusion and that is by selecting STC rated doors by choosing the right range for the auditorium which is suggested to be 35-40.
  • Background noises in the auditorium like HVAC should be prevented and that is by installing soundproofing liners in walls.
  • Balconies should be designed in a way that would allow a sound absorbing material to be placed.
  • Sound systems is preferred to be placed in the structure framing or the opening between the stage and the seating area of the auditorium rather than in the back.
  • If there is an orchestra pit there should be a sound proof curtain that can be controlled based on the noise level.
